About Us
Karen Scott LLB is an experienced adjudicator, mediator, and workplace investigator, located in Edmonton, Alberta.
Karen is a part-time Vice Chair of the Alberta Labour Relations Board and has been an adjudicator with the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal since 2015. She has issued over 50 reported decisions and conducted numerous mediations of human rights complaints, wrongful dismissal claims, and labour relations matters. Since 2021, she has also adjudicated professional disciplinary matters for the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
Karen is frequently retained by both private and public sector employers as a neutral third-party investigator to conduct workplace harassment investigations. She has been retained by both employers and employees as a mediator in employment law (non-union) matters.
After graduating with distinction from the University of Alberta Law School, Karen clerked at the Alberta Court of Appeal and Court of King’s Bench. She then began a 20-year legal practice as counsel in the field of labour, employment, and human rights law.
As a lawyer, Karen negotiated collective agreements and advised employees, employers, and unions in all aspects of labour and employment law. She has appeared as counsel before numerous labour arbitrators and the Alberta Labour Relations Board, as well as the Alberta Court of King's Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
Karen has been a sessional lecturer teaching Employment Law at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law since 2017, and she is a frequent speaker on labour and employment issues for Lancaster House, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Legal Education Society of Alberta.
At home, Karen is most often found running, hiking, skiing, or kayaking with her active family and her dog Teddy.
